I think anything that's renewable is a step in the right direction, but at the end of the day a boiler is a boiler, and burning biomass will release harmful chemicals. Could anyone put my mind at ease? I've been considering something like this in my green push, but obviously I don't want to invest in it if it isn't really green! If anyone could show me that the effects aren't how I'd imagine I'd be very happy

I think it's a good short term solution, but it isn't something we should be pursuing decades into the future at all. As you say, it still releases carbon at the end of the day.
