Title: Changes to VAT on solar panels and selling surplus solar power back to the grid
Post by: Cuthbert Dibble-Grubb on June 27, 2019, 08:14:21 PM
On 24 June 2019 the UK Treasury put forward legislation to raise VAT for home solar-battery systems from 5% to 20% with effect from October 2019. Homeowners who install new rooftop solar panels from 1 January 2020 will be able to sell their surplus energy to their supplier. So it looks like I should buy my solar equipment before October 2019, store it in the garage for a few months and install it after 1 January 2020. Does that sound about right?
