Has anyone here ever built a bike generator?

I've seen a few projects, especially people trying to live off grid. I wondered if anyone here had had a little fun trying to hook up an exercise bike to a generator? It's something I'd like to do, even if it isn't that practical.

Do you mean a literal bike-powered generator?  ;D

I'm not sure how much electricity you'd make from that or even if you could reliably store it. It probably wouldn't be worth the hassle to be honest.

Not yet, but I have an old bike I never use and an alternator. I don't think It'll be of much practical use, but I want to make one for the fun of it.

Yeah I just want to do it for fun really, though I do wonder weather I could hook it up to batteries in some way to give me emergency power during an outage.

I connected a bike flywheel to an alternator but never found anything to power with it. I tried just hooking it up to a 40W, and blew it :/ I've never made any use of it.

I've been researching for a couple of years, but haven't made the move off grid, yet. I'm looking into a bicycle generator system, and I have two questions:
Is it feasible to recharge a battery bank (say 4 to 6 batteries) using pedal power?
Would one still need to use a charge controller, if such an action would work?
Thank you
