Title: Do you believe fossil fuels will be complete phased out?
Post by: JamesH on December 01, 2015, 02:03:34 PM
I don't believe they will. I think it will get to a stage where emmisions are reduce by so much, that a small amount is tolerated. If oil consumption is reduce to just a million barrels per day, then costs may well fall significantly alongside,

They'll never be completely banned, and I think any sensible country would do well to have a national reserve of oil even after it becomes obsolete. You just never know when you might need to use it. I hate fossil fuels and passionately advocate renewable energy, but I have to acknowledge that banning them would be a bad move logically.

I'd like to think they will one day be phased out and banned to be honest. If we eventually have a fully renewable grid, why would we need them? We could store electricity for a rainy day in other, renewable ways. This electricity can in turn be used to power vehicles and the like, so I see no need for fossil fuels in a renewable world.

I'm not sure why, I just have this assumption that it will never be completely phased out. In the same way dial-up is still used by 2% of people in the US. I can see it falling to 1-2% but for some reason I still think it will hold on. Probably just in living room fireplaces for the very rich.
