There are many models and different varieties of ASHP (Air source heat pumps) on the market currently. Their performance is measured by the COP (Coefficient Of Performance) this is a measure of how many units of energy the device removes from the ambient air outside your home for each electrical unit used to power the pump itself.

These figures are getting better and better the more advanced the technology becomes you can find a few here: https://www.renewableenergyhub.co.uk/marketplace.php (https://www.renewableenergyhub.co.uk/marketplace.php)

What users should be careful of is incorrect sizing of the unit for your requirements / heating space and the type of home you have and its current / expected thermal properties ie: if you have a lot of insulation or double glazing or even better underfloor heating because this will all help the heat pump perform better.

As for brands its hard to measure one against the other, but the more devices go into homes across the UK the more information will become available regarding each models true value, but as a rule of thumb you generally get what you pay for in life so don't go relay cheap and get a variety of quotations, remembering never to give a deposit until you have seen all the installers 1st.

Happy heating all!

there are many high quality ASHPs around. A popular one is the mitsubishi ecodan which costs around 7000-11000 to install however i would suggest getting an installer to have a look at the property first as they will be able to find the most viable option also they will be able to give you accurate figures. if you would like to find out how much RHI you will get all you need is an EPC for your property and then use the .gov RHI calculator.
