As larger turbines are developed with a higher, will this help stem the tide of nimbyism that has been such a hinderance to wind energy development in the past 2 decades?

Firstly, the larger turbines themselves will mean that fewer land tenants will be required to generate the same amount of capacity, secondly the reduction in overall number of turbines will reduce the eyesore that causes so much opposition, especially to onshore turbines.

It's possible that the larger turbines may be considered an even greater eyesore, but I personally believe that the number of turbines is more of a factor than the size of each one.

Could you explain what NIMBYISM is?

Basically the fact that such a large proportion of people do not want wind turbines near them, and the fact that it becomes very difficult to find a place to put them where there won't be some opposition.

I'd never heard of that either, thanks for the clarification. To be honest, I wouldn't be too put out by a turbine in my back yard at all

I wouldn't even be against one literally in my back yard, I think I'd earn quite a bit of rent for it

Haha, true that. I don't actually understand the noise complaints, I may just be that I'm a bit deaf, but I've never heard a wint rubine make a noise before. Perhaps I've just never been close enough.

You can hear the noise if you are very close to it, but this is very rarely a problem as they are usually quite a distance from houses.
