Are smaller turbines en masse the answer?
« on: November 30, 2015, 02:45:51 PM »
One of our more modern local McDonalds branches has a wind turbine on the roof. It looks elegant and, well, modern. It's silent, and it's always spinning. I've never heard anyone complain about it, and it does provide the branch with some of its electricity.

Perhaps its small turbines that are the answer. Lots of localised smaller turbines as opposed to huge wind farms that many do not like?

In certain circumstances. The small wind turbines on many buildings do not look as much of an eyesore as some of the largers ones do. However the one's on hosues do look like a bit of an eyesore.

How would you feel about slightly larger turbines on the tops of sky scrapers? For example, imagine the new 1 WTC in New York, then add a turbine to its spire. Do you think that would go down badly?

A vertical turbine would be much more accepted than a traditional 3 blade one.

These small turbines so look horrible. I'm not opposed to the massive one's but they look out of place in cities. I think Solar should be much more encouraged in this regard.
