This is something I am thinking of getting, but I need to know the advantages and disadvantages of doing so.  I am hoping in time to have my house running on renewables and moving away from the Grid.  Not entirely sure this is possible but we'll see in time.  In theory these sound like a good idea, but never having had one before I need to know about them, costs of installing, running costs, how much it would save me etc

The main advantage is that there is no loss of electricity due to transmission, as you would get on the national grid. Also for those who use district heating there is no loss of power there either.

Micro-CHP can reduce fuel bills in many different types of homes and protect against rising energy costs. Micro-CHP can generate electricity and heat from the same fuel at very high efficiency and is one of a new suite of energy efficient solutions available today to the consumer and small businesses.
