General / Should I wait for technology to improve?
August 26, 2014, 10:43:11 PM
People keep telling me I should look into renewable sources.  Apart from not knowing a great deal about the topic, I'm worried that if I was to go ahead and purchase something, that within months it would be out of date (bit like computers) - should I wait or not?  Are there new things coming that I would be better off waiting for?

Biomass Boilers / What is a biomass boiler?
August 26, 2014, 10:39:10 PM
What exactly is a biomass boiler and what does it do?  how is it different from a normal boiler? is it worth looking into and getting?

I know nothing about this kind of thing, but I've been told this is something to be looked into - so tell me about it, what sort of performance will I get, what sort of saving on my bills etc

Solar PV / Is it easy to install solar panels?
August 26, 2014, 10:34:23 PM
How long does it take?  Can it be done by someone on a DIY basis or should it always be done by a professional firm?

I've seen a lot of people locally who now have Solar panels, thinking it may be something worth doing, but do I need planning permission for them?  I would hate to install them and then find out I needed permission first

General / How does renewable energy create jobs?
August 26, 2014, 10:28:16 PM
People say that building new renewable energy sources in this country creates more jobs? - just how does that work?  No one actually "mans" the wind turbines etc so how does it create more jobs?

As an animal lover I am a little concerned that wind turbines may be dangerous to not only native wildlife but also the more at risk species. this applies to bats too

How are they made safe to birds and bats so they don't fly into them?  Bats are probably ok because of their sonar but what about birds?  I know the turbines make hardly any noise at all, so how can you ensure the birds don't fly into them?

Wind Turbines / Can Wind Turbines make people ill?
August 26, 2014, 10:20:54 PM
I've heard numerous stories saying that wind turbines can make people ill, and also I'm sure i've read things that people are trying to equate illnesses suffered within the area they are living in with new wind farms - I'm thinking its purely co-incidence but can anyone help?

General / What is renewable energy?
August 26, 2014, 10:17:43 PM
I know that this will sound like a really stupid question, but what EXACTLY is renewable energy? - I keep hearing people talk about it and saying we should all be looking into it, but I really do not know what it is or where to start

Thanks
