Solar Panel Quotes
When most people think of replacing their current energy supply with that of some form of renewable energy then the chances are that the first thing that comes to mind is that of solar power. Here we take a quick look at having solar panels installed in your home and the sort of things you need to consider when looking for solar panel quotes.
If you are now looking to get a range of solar panel quotes for your home then there are a number of factors that you need to think about. Whilst having solar photovoltaic panels fitted is often marketed as a way of saving money on your current energy costs this is true, but only up to a point. Initially you will need to weigh the costs of the initial outlay of the solar panels in terms of labour and materials against the time it will take to recoup those costs.
Unfortunately there is no quick and easy means by which to calculate how much you could save and the length of time it will take you to make those savings. This is because the efficiency of the solar panels is dependent on many things. These include:
- The type/quality of solar panels you have installed
- The efficiency rating of the solar panels
- The type of property the panels are to be installed onto (it is cheaper to install panels on new build properties than existing buildings)
- The location of the property, for example do you live in a part of the country that receives low amounts of sunshine?
All of these factors will have an impact on the type of solar panel quotes that you are likely to receive.
On the plus side, the government has some generous financial incentives which will help balance the costs of solar panel installation. The government’s Feed-In Tariff will pay you for generating your own electricity, although since 1st January 2016 this is not as much as it used to be.
Another thing that many people fail to consider when looking for solar panel quotes is how the installation of solar panels will affect the value of their property. Unfortunately there is no clear evidence one way or another on this matter. It may be the case that some people might actually be put off from buying a property with solar panels fitted because of aesthetic reasons. Other people, meanwhile, might find the idea of purchasing a property with solar panels attractive, either for financial reasons or for environmental reasons.
Finally, don’t forget that the best way to pay for the cost of solar panel installation is in one go, up front. Clearly for many people this isn’t always an option. However, don’t forget that taking out a loan to pay for panel installation will add significantly to the price that you end up paying. This is something that you will need to be factored into the length of time it will take before you begin to make savings on your energy consumption.
