Using air source heat pump with photo-voltaics

Hi, I have a gas boiler but try to run an air-source heat pump off photo-voltaics when it is efficient to do so.
At what temperature (outside) does it become inefficient to do this, rather than use the gas? (I have scoured the web for this info but turned up nothing.)

Plus does anybody have any idea if there is a gadget that I could have installed which would switch the airsource heat pump on when there is enough photo-voltaic power to run it (and, obviously, off when there is not)?

Any answers, gratefully received.
