The Biomass Energy Centre The Biomass Energy Centre is the UK government information centre for the use of biomass for energy in the UK. Funding for the Biomass Energy Centre Inquiry Service has now come to an end. It is therefore with great regret that we announce that we are unable to continue to provide this service. We hope that this website, and the literature and links available through it, will continue to provide information and answer any questions you may have.

The Micropower Council

The Micropower Council represents companies and organisations active in the microgeneration sector and campaigns on behalf of its members for a genuine mass market for small scale, low and zero carbon electricity and heat generating technologies.



IPA - Scotland

The IPA represents a group of companies that operate in all areas of the power and energy related industries. IPA members provide solutions based on a wide range of technologies, from thermal power plants to renewable energy systems. Expertise and experience ranges from design through construction and operation of complete power plants, and on the engineered systems and equipment that form critical parts of power plants. Federation of Environmental Trade Associations

FETA is the recognised UK body representing the interests of over 400 manufacturers, suppliers, installers and contractors within the heating, ventilating, building controls, refrigeration & air conditioning industry to policy makers and the wider public.



Combined Heat & Power Association

The Combined Heat and Power Association (CHPA) is the leading advocate of an integrated approach to delivering energy services using combined heat and power and district heating and cooling. As an industry leader, the CHPA brings together interested parties from across the sector to develop a strong, dynamic and sustainable environment for combined heat and power and district heating and cooling technologies.



The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE)

The BCSE is a coalition of companies and trade associations from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors, and also includes independent electric power producers, investor-owned utilities, public power, commercial end-users and project developers and service providers for environmental markets



British Hydropower Association

The British Hydropower Association (BHA) is the professional trade body representing the interests of the UK hydropower industry and its associated stakeholders in the wider community at regional, national and global levels.



Association Of Energy Producers

Energy UK is the trade association for the energy industry. Energy UK has over 80 companies as members that together cover the broad range of energy providers and suppliers and include companies of all sizes working in all forms of gas and electricity supply and energy networks. Energy UK members generate more than 90% of UK electricity and provide light and heat to some 26 million homes.

The Department of Energy & Climate Change

Department for Local Communities and Government (DLCG) work to move decision-making power from central government to local councils. This helps put communities in charge of planning, increases accountability and helps citizens to see how their money is being spent.



Environment Agency

The Environmental Agency are an Executive Non-departmental Public Body responsible to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Their principal aims are to protect and improve the environment, and to promote sustainable development. They play a central role in delivering the environmental priorities of central government through our functions and roles.




Ofgem is the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets. We are a non-ministerial government department and an independent National Regulatory Authority, recognised by EU Directives. Our principal duty is to protect the interests of consumers, both present and future. We do this in a variety of ways including: promoting value for money promoting security of supply and sustainability, for present and future generations of consumers, domestic and industrial users the supervision and development of markets and competition regulation and the delivery of Government schemes.

WREN is a major non-profit organization registered in the United Kingdom with charitable status and affiliated to UNESCO, the Deputy Director General of which is its honorary President. It has a Governing Council, an Executive Committee and a Director General. It maintains links with many United Nations, governmental and non-governmental organisations.

The Department of Energy & Climate Change RESTATS

This web site holds statistical information on renewable energy projects from the following data collection activities undertaken by Ricardo-AEA on behalf of the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC): RESTATS, the Renewable Energy STATisticS database, contains performance statistics on all relevant renewable energy sources in the United Kingdom. REPD, the Renewable Energy Planning Database, tracks the progress of projects from inception, through planning, construction and operational phases These projects are key to assessing the success of the renewable energy technologies and progress to targets introduced in the 2009 Renewable Energy Directive.
