Could India follow China's lead in creating a massive dam on their own national river, the Ganges?

I think it would help massive as India already does not meet current electricity demand, and the Ganges has a very large outflow.

The Ganges has a spiritual value whereas the Yangtze didn't. I think that alone would be the foremost barrier to a dam.  Technically though I see it as viable, and as you said, would go quite a long way to helping India get a stable energy grid.

Theoretically this could produce about 25GW, but the main issue here is Bangladesh. Building this could potentially lead to war, and one not fighting over.
