Hello, I'm a 3rd year student at the University of Reading and I'm conducting a survey on what motivates as well as puts people off when deciding to invest into microgeneration.

If you have had a system installed or is considering to do so please take the time time (2 minutes tops) to complete my survey.
Please use the link below. Thank you!

Hi, the main motivation for me was the quoted payback period of only 4 years. The calculation should compare the cost of installation INCLUDING any interest to pay on the loan to purchase the installation against the savings to be made. The information I have seen never includes this interest so never plays a part in the return on investment timescale. If this interest amount was included, the return on investment would be far far longer.  So basically the actual figure we need is how much we would have if we kept the money & attracted interest against the savings + fit tariff payments. Usually & especially with higher cost systems they would barely break even if the loss of interest amount is taken into consideration on the quotation.
So, has your research highlighted this & do any members of this forum agree that the interest lost on savings or the interest paid on a loan for the system should be included in the initial payback period quotation.
