Hi,

I am looking for a large solar system with battery storage to see if I can have no electricity bill over summer months and minimal over winter ( plan to charge battery at night using low cost off peak electicity (such as octopus EV tarffic)

My usage is 30Kw per day. I also plan to change boiler to Air source heat pump in near future.

My requirements are-
30Kw- 40kw battery storage
10kw continues discharge so I can run all appliances at the same time if required.

I have a large south facing roof which can take 8-10kw solar panels.

I need some advice re this size of solar panels and battery options required to produce enough power all appliances plus air source heat pump as well as fully charge battery during the day

Ok

So we have a large solar system. Specifically we have 9.6kw on a south facing roof and a further 4.8 on an east facing roof.

We produced a total of 10,371 from the solar panels on our south roof last year which was good. Over the year that is an average of 28kw/day.

Here are the monthly figures

October    641.3
November    506.5
December    230.7
January    400.0
February    578.4
March    948.1
April    1172.9
May    1178.3
June    1259.9
July    1351.6
August    1235.4
September    868.8

30kw/day is extremely high usage. The critical figure is minimum output. The proposed size of your battery is massive. We have 4 x 6.5 kw Growatt which are each capable of charging/discharging 3kw. Personally I think I went OTT and your proposal seems to be even worse.

We have just installed 5kw of panels and have a 6kw growatt battery and 3kw inverter.
The results (starting mid October) have been interesting!
I believe that many installers have no real idea about how a system works across the seasons.
The big advantage in these winter months comes from using the battery in the off peak tariff between 2 an 6 am when the cost is only 10p/KWh. The modest solar capture is only partially used with the balance going to the grid for a measly 5p/KWh.
I want to get the best flexibility from the system by changing the main settings for instance allowing the battery to charge from mains between 2am and 4am. There is a big warning on the Growatt app which says if I enter settings then, effectively, my warranty is compromised. The installers say they can enter the settings for me but I dont want to go to them every time I want to change a setting.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Next summer I can see that we will want to charge the battery by solar only ( but it would be good on dull days to enter settings and allow off peak charging.
We also hope that in summer we can get on the 'Octopus' tariff and get paid 15p per KWh
