A good friend of mine wants to get Solar Panels installed.  She has asked me to see if I can get some indication of costs for her, as it's been a while since I got mine, I've forgotten what the criteria is and what people need to know to obtain a quote for her.  Any recommendations of companies to approach in the South East for quotes for her

Hi there Andrew.

You can search for a solar panel installer here: https://www.renewableenergyhub.co.uk/search-installers Just type in your local town or your postcode and 99% of the installers, both local to you and national will appear so you can compare and ask for a quotations. If you wish you can select the companies you wish a quote from, and click the 'Compare Prices' button, fill in your name and phone number and all the hard work will be done for you. I recommend getting a quote from 2 local companies and 2 larger nationals for a good price comparison.

All the best

For a 4 kWp system with a string inverter, installed all on one roof, in April 2015, you should expect to pay around £ 6 to £6.5 K if good quality equipment is installed , no corners cut and the job is done properly by professionals.

Typically, you will need a roof width of about 8-9 metres wide and a ridge to gutter measurement of about 3.6 - 4metres.

You can find installers with references on checkatrade, whichlocal, free index, here or on the MCS website.
