What happened to the Gov Scheme for Solar panels

I managed to get mine when this was in operation - it was my first foray into renewables and the best thing I've ever done.  My friend though didn't get round to it (busy with working, children etc) and now the scheme seems to have ended.  She has been told that her local energy supplier may offer something but she is worried about the costs.

Does anyone know what happened to it?

The scheme has not ended. The feed in tariff is still available

I should have added to that the  feed in tariff just may not be as much now as when you took up the option. If your friend is worried about the cost ( they have gone down now mind) then, if he/she has a south (ish) facing roof, no shading issues and it can take a minimum of 10 panels or more then she could have free solar panels if he/she wanted. The funders we deal with will put free solar panels on roofs that meet their criteria. The homeowner gets all the free electricity that the panels produce ( approx. halving the bill ) and the funder gets to keep the FIT to cover the panels, scaffolding, installation, maintenance and insurance costs. What's not to like?..lol

You can earn and save around £ 1,100 p.a. and have your system pay back its cost in 5-8 years, depending where you are in the country and what equipment you install.
