Which technology offers the most potential to the UK?

Hydro, both tidal and dams. Wind is good, and we have a lot already, but we need to add stability in the grid, and this is best done in the form of renewables.

Wind, because it's the cheapest and fastest thing we can do at the moment to reduce coal and gas consumption. Although in the long term more reliable sources of renewables will have to be invested in.

I voted for hydro - dams. Stability is the keyword in your post. As we store electricity we gradually lose it, so it's far better to store the means for making electricity, not the juice itself. Storing water behind a dam is perfect electricity storage if you know it's an area with plentiful rainfall.

I personally think that hydro electricity is underused, as it is something that is always available, but so few people actually harness that energy at the moment to turn it into something useful. Wind is great, but the turbines have to be switched off after a certain wind speed, so to some extent the best of the energy is actually wasted entirely!

I would say both Hydro & wind power should be harnessed side by side.
