7 of the Best Heat Pump Installers in the UK for 2026

Heat pumps are an efficient, low-carbon alternative to combustion boilers, offering 2 - 4 units of heat for every unit of electricity, potentially cutting heating bills by up to £340 a year.

The government currently offers support through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant of up to £7,500, but installed prices still vary by property, installer, and system complexity.

Choosing the right installer is crucial. It's important to consider heat-loss calculations, MCS certification, customer reviews, and obtain transparent quotes and warranties.

Heat pumps are becoming increasingly popular in the UK although they are still not as widely adopted as gas boilers.

Heat pumps are a low carbon way to heat your home and hot water and could save you a lot of money in the long run. They are highly efficient electric appliances that transfer and intensify heat from the outside air or ground into a building. In many UK homes, a heat pump will typically deliver around 2-4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity (seasonal performance varies by property, design, controls and weather). This means that a property’s energy demand is significantly reduced when replacing technologies such as gas boilers.

The Energy Saving Trust has estimated that switching from a G-rated gas boiler to a heat pump could reduce your heating bills by £340 a year. Although a heat pump will, most likely, reduce energy use, they may not necessarily reduce utility bills without proper design or tariff optimization.

The UK government has set ambitious targets to install 600,000 heat pumps annually by 2028. Though sales are currently below that level heat pump sales have gained traction in the last couple of years. Progress is improving, but the UK is still well below that target. In the first half of 2025, around 30,000 heat pumps were installed in the UK.

The Boiler Upgrade scheme introduced by the UK government in May 2022 is a grant which covers up to £7,500 of the cost of installing a heat pump. However, you may still have a sizeable upfront bill depending on variables such as the complexity of the installation, whether you need new radiators and insulation and the size of your property. According to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), the average UK heat pump installation costs £12,600 though Octopus Energy says that, in some cases, it can install a heat pump for as little as £500 after the grant has been applied.

Typical costs for a full installed system can vary widely by property, so treat any “average cost” you see online as a rough guide and insist on a full breakdown of quotes.

This guide aims to help you make an informed decision when choosing a heat pump installer for your home. We will not only look at installers that save you the most money but examine criteria such as product quality and guarantees.

We have chosen to take a deeper dive into 7 of the best known heat pump installers in the UK. Firstly, though here are some of the key factors to consider when choosing a heat pump installer:

Evaluate your Heat Pump needs

A good installer will conduct a thorough assessment of your property and heating needs before providing a detailed and transparent quote. It’s important to give yourself plenty of time to think through all the points that determine your heat pump needs and not be rushed by your installer. This is the time to ask your installer how they are going to decide on the right heat pump size and type for your home. It’s also worth asking if they can give you any guidance on smart thermostat integration and zoning options. A professional installer will assess factors such as insulation, room sizes, existing heating systems, and local climate conditions before recommending a heat pump solution. Your installer should also perform a detailed heat loss calculation to ensure your system is neither oversized nor undersized to avoid inefficiencies and unnecessary costs. Here are some of the points you need to consider:

What’s your Budget?

Bearing in mind that an air source heat pump including installation costs £10,000 or more and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers £7,500 of this amount you will still need to find £2,500 or more. This amount is roughly what you would pay for a new gas boiler, but the heat pump’s lifespan is about double. Installation accounts for around £3,000 to £5,000 of the overall cost. Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) cost more to install because the process is more labour-intensive. A GSHP system costs around £24,000 including installation.
You should set your top limit with your installer at this point and make sure you stick to it.

(All figures are indicative and can be higher or lower depending on the heat-loss, installation complexity, heat pump brands and installer costs.)

Will you use financing or pay upfront?
You will find that some installers have especially good financing schemes and others are particularly helpful when it comes to grant applications.

What heat pump brand do you want?
Different heat pump companies work with different heat pump brands. If you are interested in a particular heat pump brand you should make sure your installer can provide it.

What do you need your heat pump to do?
You should make a list of what you want from your heat pump and consider factors such as whether you need your heat pump to be compatible with your existing radiators, whether you need a hot water tank and whether you need it to be particularly small, unobtrusive or quiet. Make sure the installer you chose can accommodate your wishes.

Are you considering any other installations?
Some installers provide a whole range of heating systems and renewables while others are heat pump specialists. If you think you might consider other installations in the future, it’s probably a good idea to establish a relationship with a one-stop shop.

Thoroughly Research your Installers – Start Local

It’s a good idea to start by researching local companies as they often have a better understanding of regional climate conditions and local building practices. It’s also more likely that they will be able to provide a prompt service for any future maintenance or repairs. You will find that different companies excel in different areas. We’re going to look at examples of this later. All companies will of course have their pros and cons. An installer’s website should include details of the heat pumps they install, the other products and services they provide, and how their costs and warranties compare with their competitors. Because there are so many factors to take into consideration, you’re unlikely to get an instant quote from a heat pump installer.

Make sure you ask your installer lots of questions about their experience, the installation process, and the heat pump systems they are recommending. A good installer will take the time to explain things clearly without applying pressure tactics. If you feel at all uncomfortable or pressured, it’s probably best to find a new installer for your job.

Find a local installer

Welcome to the biggest directory of UK renewable energy companies

Check qualifications

One of the most important factors when choosing a heat pump installer is verifying their certifications. In the UK, installers should be MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) certified. This ensures that the company is technically competent and uses products that meet industry standards. MCS certification is also necessary for you to qualify for government incentives like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).

MCS certified installers should also be registered with a consumer protection scheme such as The Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) or the Home Insulation and Energy Systems Quality Assured Contractors Scheme (HIES). This means that if anything goes wrong you are protected.
Additionally, F-Gas certification is necessary for handling refrigerants safely. Ensuring your installer holds these qualifications will give you confidence in their ability to perform a professional and compliant installation.

You can check whether a particular heat pump installer is MCS certified by going to the MCS website. If your installer is planning to use a subcontractor company, you should make sure they carry the same accreditations too.

It’s also a good idea to find out how long your installer has traded under its current name by checking the Companies House website. This a comparatively young industry and new companies spring up all the time, but a long track record will help give you peace of mind. Experienced professionals are more likely to handle challenges effectively and provide reliable advice.

Research Installer Reputation and Reviews

Before hiring a heat pump installer, take time to research their reputation. Look at online reviews for any installers you are considering employing, on reputable platforms such as Trustpilot, Checkatrade, and Google Reviews. A well-rated installer with lots of positive reviews is a good indicator of reliability and high-quality service.

It’s very simple to check with Trustpilot for example. You search for the companies by name and then narrow down the results by specifying key words such as ‘service’, ‘quote’ and ‘grant’. Trustpilot’s search function is a bit hit and miss so avoid searching for heat pumps, for example as you will just get a list of companies with ‘heat pump’ in their name.

Another excellent way of finding out more about your installer is to ask them for customer testimonials or case studies showcasing previous installations. If possible, have a chat with past clients to get firsthand feedback about the installer’s professionalism, punctuality, and quality of work.
It can be useful to talk to your friends and neighbours as they may have reliable recommendations, or you could ask for recommendations and advice on a local Facebook group.

You should also bear in mind that even if your installer isn’t high-profile enough to make it onto our list their local knowledge and proximity might make them perfect for you.

Get Three Itemised Quotes

It's essential to get quotes from at least three different installers. Obtaining multiple quotes from different heat pump installers gives you the opportunity to compare costs and services. If you’re happy for us to recommend reliable installers available in your area please use our free installer search function on our website. We only need a few brief details of what you’re looking for and we’ll ask a few specially selected companies to contact you.

Alternatively, you can contact three or four of the companies that you were impressed with during your research. They should offer to visit your home and assess your energy requirements. Instant quotes are not applicable for heat pump systems. They should provide you with a fully itemised quote which specifies the price of your heat pump type and model; optional features such as monitoring systems; labour costs; and additional work such as plumbing alterations or insulation. The quote should include a detailed breakdown of labour, equipment, and any additional costs. Watch out for hidden fees.

Don’t automatically go for the cheapest price. Ask to see pictures of the heat pump system your installer is suggesting for you. Make sure you get details of the product specifications and projected savings. Be careful with “projected savings”: ask what assumptions were used (electric/gas tariff, flow temperature, hours run, seasonal variations etc) It’s important to look at the value that each installer brings to the table and consider aspects such as warranty, aftercare services, and installation quality.

If price is a concern, find out about financing options, like loans, grants, and leasing programmes to help mitigate the cost. A well-installed heat pump may cost more initially but it will provide better efficiency and lower maintenance costs over its lifespan.

Questions to ask before you employ your installer

Before you sign a contract make sure that you have the answers to the following questions:

  • How long will it take for the job to be completed?
  • How long will you be without heating and hot water? This should be no more than around a couple of days.
  • Are there any changes you can make to your home to reduce the overall bill and give you more choice over components? For example, can you source and buy a new hot water tank or radiators by yourself?
  • Will all the work be carried out by the same company or will subcontractors be involved? If so, you need to ask who they are so you can check their credentials.
  • Will the work comply with all relevant regulations, including current building regulations? Heat pumps don’t usually require planning permission, but if you live in an older property, it’s worth asking about this.
  • What warranties are included in the quote? Ask about labour and performance warranties as well as manufacturers’ product warranties.
  • Will the heat pump operate with your existing electricity supply?
  • How often should the heat pump be serviced, and will your installation company be able to do this?
  • Will you receive (1) the MCS certificate, (2) full commissioning data/settings, and (3) clear handover guidance on controls and efficient operation?

Don’t be rushed into making a decision

Give yourself time to weigh up all the options and consider the pros and cons. You don’t have to sign the contract while the sales rep is in the room. It’s best to sleep on it and then make your choice without the sales rep breathing down your neck.
Remember, an air source heat pump should last 20 years so it’s a serious investment for your home as well as being a central part of your home life.

7 of the best heat pump installers UK

Here’s a Selection of 7 of the Best Heat Pump Installers in the UK:

Best for national coverage: Renewafuel

Renewafuel offers a wide range of products and services, including solar panel and EV charger installations as well as ASHPs. It also covers a much bigger geographical area than its younger competitors. This might be off-putting if you’re looking for a heat pump specialist or an installer that focuses on a specific area, but their reliability could make up for this. You’ll feel in good hands with Renewafuel which has been trading for almost 7 years.

Although the company only installs Mitsubishi Ecodan domestic heat pumps, they have been carefully chosen to offer high efficiency and quiet operation. Renewafuel also provides its customers with a 10-year performance guarantee to ensure that its ASHPs heat your home comfortably for at least a decade.

Renewafuel’s Trustpilot rating of 4.4 is deemed ‘excellent’. Customer reviews show that they are impressed with their speed of service, aftercare, and system performance. Most reviews are positive although there are a few complaints about no-shows. You can expect to be treated in a professional and courteous manner.

Advantages

  • All of mainland Britain is covered, so they should be able to help you with your installation.
  • They are highly recommended for their fast response and professional approach.
  • Customers say the system is straightforward to use and quick to heat up
  • Renewafuel is an experienced heat pump installation company having been around for a lot longer than its competitors
  • There are very few negative reviews and Renewafuel replies in detail to all complaints

Disadvantages

  • Renewafuel only installs Mitsubishi Ecodan heat pumps, and you may prefer a different type or brand of heat pump
  • Wide geographical coverage can lead to slower times between quoting and installing

Best value for money: Octopus Energy

Octopus Energy is best known as an energy supplier, but it now offers a wide range of renewables including solar panels and EV chargers as well as heat pumps. It installs air source heat pumps (ASHP) and has even produced its own ASHP model. You can employ the company to install your heat pump even if they don’t supply your gas and electricity. Despite only entering the market 10 years ago the London-based firm is already the UK’s second biggest energy supplier. Octopus is one of the UK’s largest suppliers, and its position can change over time - check the latest if that matters to you.

Octopus Energy launched its own heat pump, the cosy 6, in 2024. It also installs models from leading brand Daikin. Both heat pumps work well with the company’s ‘Cosy Octopus’ smart tariff, which aims to keep your outgoings as low as possible. (Availability of models/tariffs can vary—confirm what’s currently offered.)

Octopus Energy’s heat pump prices are competitive. You may see very low headline prices in marketing for some households after grants, but eligibility and total installed price vary - ask for a full itemised quote for your home. Though it’s unlikely that you’ll pay as little as the £500 that Octopus claims it can install an ASHP for, its prices are at the low end of the market. As with all the installers on this list, Octopus will help you claim the maximum £7,500 government grant for your heat pump. It also helps customers with low incomes with its £30m Octo Assist hardship fund.

Octopus Energy’s Trustpilot score of 4.8 is consistently outstanding. Five-star reviews are posted most days, praising efficient heat pump installations, phenomenal aftercare, and excellent value for money.

Advantages

  • Consistent and excellent customer feedback for heat pump installations and competitive pricing
  • Heat pumps and installation offer great value for money as does their Cosy Octopus tariff
  • Plenty of options available with their own Cost heat pump range and market-leading Daikin models
  • Committed to green energy through partnerships with bodies such as the Centre for Net Zero

Disadvantages

  • Octopus doesn’t currently cover the whole of the UK though it is working hard to change this. Following a partnership with the National Grid to build a network of verified installers across the UK, coverage is likely to grow fast.
  • Although its 8-year warranty is better than some it falls short of Aira’s 15 years

Best for warranty: Aira Home

Swedish heat pump maker and installer Aira Home offers the best guarantees and financing options in this list. The company has done well considering it only launched in the UK in November 2023. It has teamed up with industry partners to offer solar panels, insulation, and other services across most of the UK. Make sure to check availability in your postcode area.

Aira’s installers are fully qualified employees who only install one brand of heat pump: Aira’s own. The Aira Heat Pump is one of the most efficient ASHPs you can buy. Aira guarantees its system will keep your home at a comfortable 18-22°C all year for 15 years, beating its closest rival by five years. (As always, read the warranty and performance guarantee terms carefully.)

Aira Home offers a unique subscription style finance plan. Once the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant is subtracted, you have approximately £4,000 -£7,000 to pay for the Aira Heat Pump and installation. Aira Home lets you spread the cost via monthly payments though you have to apply for this and have your credit approved.

The firm has invested £300m in its UK growth plans and the CEO Martin Lewerth is aiming to install their heat pump in 1 million UK homes within a decade.

Advantages

  • The Aira heat pump has excellent efficiency and cold weather ratings
  • Aira Home’s 15-year product and performance guarantees is better than all its competitors by years
  • Customers praise their excellent workmanship and heat pump systems
  • Subscription-style financing plan allows you to spread the cost

Disadvantages

  • Price options are limited as they only install their own heat pump
  • Some customer feedback suggests that there may be a lack of communication, but this could be because the company is so new to the UK

Best for grants: Warma UK

Warma UK is very proactive when it comes to offering advice on government grants including the £7,500 BUS payment.

Cheshire-based Warma installs Samsung EHS (Eco Heating System) Monobloc heat pumps across most of mainland Britain. The company is well known for its excellent customer service and has a reputation for doing all it can to win all available subsidies for customers.
Like many other installers, Warma has become a one-stop shop for sustainable energy offering services which include solar panels, solar batteries, insulation, and home EV charging.

Customers are impressed with the way Warma’s teams can carry out multiple installations so quickly. They receive excellent reviews regarding their customer service and system quality. Considering the amount of grant-funded work Warma conducts there are very few complaints about delays caused by grant applications. You can be confident that you’re in a safe and friendly pair of hands with Warma onboard.

Advantages

  • Can save you thousands by working proactively to get you any available grants
  • Installs other sustainable energy measures such as insulation and solar panels
  • Customers are impressed with Warma’s workmanship and service, including aftercare

Disadvantages

  • Information about the Samsung ASHPs is not easily accessible as it’s currently hidden away in a PDF

Best for customer service: Puraflow Renewables

Puraflow set up shop in Nottinghamshire in 2022 so is fairly new to the scene. They currently have fewer than 100 customer reviews on Trustpilot. However, the reviews are among some of the best for any company.

Puraflow has demonstrated a commitment to keeping customers happy. They provide clear quotes, fast installation, tidy work and friendly but professional customer service. If they do receive a complaint it is dealt with swiftly.

They offer a good selection of heat pumps, with Samsung, Mitsubishi and Vaillant models all installed by the fully accredited team. You can apply for financing through their website. Their website is polished and professional, with sections for solar PV and battery storage as well as for ASHPs. The company also provides home insulation services.

Advantages

  • Puraflow receives superb customer feedback, and has a 4.7 Trustpilot rating
  • Customers are full of praise for the team's friendly but professional approach
  • They offer a very good choice of heat pumps from top brands Samsung, Mitsubishi, and Vaillant
  • They also install solar panels, batteries, and home insulation

Disadvantages

  • If you want solar panels to be installed, Puraflow only provides REA Fusion solar panels, which may not be the ones you want

Best for hard water areas: Adlar Castra

Dutch firm Adlar castra is new to the UK and only installs its own brand of heat pump. Unlike Aira it only serves London and the Southeast.

Unfortunately, the regional limitation may exclude you from using their services but if you’re in the right area and like many other UK residents struggle with hard water and limescale Adlar’s ASHP could be the answer for you. Adlar’s ASHP could make your home’s heating and hot water far more efficient.

Adlar’s product is a dual heat pump system, with an outdoor unit for heating and an indoor cylinder unit for hot water. The indoor cylinder balances its water’s pH by removing calcium and other mineral deposits that create limescale. The unit also supports smart connection to solar batteries, so you can run yours as a “thermal battery” which stores heat energy.

Because Adlar is so new to the UK there aren’t any English-language reviews on Trustpilot yet. However Dutch customers seem to be happy with Adlar’s service and delighted with their systems. Their only complaint is that on occasion there is a too long a delay between booking and installing.

Advantages

  • Adlar's dual heat pump system allows you to manage your heating and hot water separately
  • The system's indoor cylinder softens your hot water as well as storing it
  • They offer a two-year product warranty as well as a five-year workmanship guarantee to provide reassurance

Disadvantages

  • Adlar has plans to expand but currently they only cover London and the Southeast.
  • There are no English-language Trustpilot reviews yet
  • Adlar doesn't provide or install ASHPs other than its own brand
  • They don’t offer other renewables such as solar

Best newcomer: ELT Heat

You can find a lot of useful information on the St. Alban’s based ELT Heat’s website. The company bears the name of its parent company, Emerging Living Technologies.

The firm provides and installs two major heat pump brands, Samsung and Vaillant, including the Vaillant aroTHERM model which is widely considered to be one of the best on the market. This is due to its high efficiency and ability to produce high water temperatures.

All ELT Heat’s engineers are full-time employees, and lead engineers have achieved the level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Heat Pump Systems (Non-Refrigerant Circuits).

Currently, the company only covers London and the Southeast and doesn’t offer financing, but this may change in the future. In order for the company to expand they need to ensure that the quality of its service can be replicated at a national scale.

Advantages

  • As ELT's engineers are full-time employees, you won't need to worry about your ASHP being installed by a subcontractor
  • Approved installer of industry leading Samsung and Vaillant heat pumps
  • ELT offers product guarantees of five years for Vaillant heat pumps and seven years for Samsung heat pumps.

Disadvantages

  • Currently only covers London and the Southeast but hopes to expand
  • Because they are a relative newcomer to the industry there are no customer reviews online yet
