How much do Infrared heating systems Cost? UK Guide for 2026

There are a number of parameters that determine the cost of infrared heating and your initial outlay will depend on whether you are looking for single panel for your living room or bed room or a fuller system that covers the whole house or office.

The other issue people need to consider is how much it will save you in the long term and this often depends on the type of system you are replacing and how your home is set up with regards to areas such as insulation.

Infrared heating is becoming a more diverse industry with more than simple wall or ceiling panels and now includes options such as infrared underfloor heating systems, although it does not include boilers, as infrared heating is an electric heat source rather than a water-based system.

Here's a table detailing the costs of infrared heating panels in the UK. The prices can vary based on size, wattage, brand, and retailer.

Size/Power Average Cost (Low) Average Cost (High) Notes
300W Panel £129 £199 Smaller panels found online for compact spaces such as bathrooms or small offices.
400W Panel £129 £258 Mid-range panels suitable for small to medium rooms.
600W Panel £250 £359 Popular medium panel size for average rooms.
800W Panel £282 £399 Larger panel for medium to large rooms.
1000W Panel £263 £539 Suitable for large rooms or open plan spaces.
1100W Panel £399 £560 Strong output models for more demanding environments.
Designer / Custom Panels £400 £1,000+ Mirror, ceramic or bespoke designs remain at a premium.

These prices are indicative supply-only costs and can vary depending on the brand, design, power output, smart features and retailer. Entry-level models may be cheaper, while premium or designer panels can cost significantly more, so it’s best to check current prices with suppliers.

Single Infrared Heating Panels

The cost of a single infrared panel heater can range between £100 and around £1,000 depending on the power and size of the device. Prices do in fact begin to change when you bring in a little customisation. For example a panel with your favourite print on top (so that you can hang it like a picture) will cost in the region of £300 and a designer glass panel heater may well cost in the region of £450.

Most people opt for a heating panel which is about the size of a large TV and preferences range from those who want it to be a centre piece for the room and those who want something that is fairly unobtrusive. Generally, infrared heaters are easy to install and the cost of doing so is not prohibitive if you don’t want to do it yourself. Electrical connection may require a qualified electrician to comply with current UK wiring regulations. Many suppliers now add this into the purchase price if you are buying direct from them.

Savings for a Single Infrared Heating Panel

It is difficult to gauge the exact savings of a particular system because there are variations between different suppliers and products. According to Red Hot Green a 500w heater costs around £70 a year to run (based on 11 hours a day) and this compares to, say, a gas supplied heater that would cost over twice that or an oil filled radiator that would put you back nearly £300. Actual running costs will depend heavily on electricity prices, usage patterns and insulation levels.

A similar comparison by Green Age found that infrared heaters can be cheaper to run than conventional convection heaters in some homes, although actual savings depend on electricity prices, insulation levels and how the system is used.

Fitting out your Entire Home or Office

Whilst you can quite easily buy a single infrared heating panel and install it in your room you may well want to fit out your entire house or office. This presents a problem with co-ordinating them together as you don’t want to have to walk around switching them all on when you have better things to be getting on with.

With greater wireless connectivity you can now buy thermostats and controls for electrical devices that can be used in much the same way as your gas central heating. These can be fitted to walls or in plug sockets and can make a big difference to an installation at a small extra cost.

Case Study

There’s no doubt that the installation of infrared heating panels is being considered as a cost saving measure not only for businesses but also within homes.

Some installers and suppliers claim savings of up to 70% on existing heating methods, although real-world savings vary significantly depending on the property, energy tariffs, insulation and how the system is used. With developed thermostat technology it means many companies can consider putting in complete systems that are controlled by multiple wireless devices.

Green Age – Surrey Domestic Property

Changes to a full domestic infrared heating system often works best when and the savings are more pronounced if you are replacing an old system. The Andersons opted for a change on their Surrey flat and went for infrared primarily because it was less invasive that other systems and easy to install. The company put up four panels, each with their own thermostat at a cost of around £1,000 with a ten year warranty.

Large Scale Installation in an Office Block

It’s not just domestic properties that can benefit from the installation of infrared heating panels. A case study by Red Hot Green showed an office block that was replacing its old style gas boilers and radiators (that took around £10,000 to run and maintain each year). They installed some 81 ceiling mounted infrared heating panels that reduced the company’s heating bills by a significant margin, with reported savings dependent on usage patterns and energy prices.

Other Options to Panels

It’s true to say that the infrared heating industry is one of the fastest developing areas of new technology at the moment. You can now buy underfloor heating elements that produce 130 to 160 watts per square metre that can be purchased in a number of different sizes. These systems are electric infrared or radiant heating solutions rather than traditional wet underfloor heating. You can also get high efficiency electric heating systems that use infrared radiation, rather than boilers that heat water.

Infrared heating is fast become a good option for households and businesses that are looking for a cost effective and flexible solution whether it’s for a single room or for a whole property. You can find out more about suppliers of infrared heating in your area on our database.
